The 6.0 firmware may be released earlier than expected

[ Date:09/08/2009 13:57:55 ]   [ Font size:L M S ]

A few days ago, we had announced the exclusive arrival of the beta firmware 6.0 for developers (see EXCLUDED - The firmware 6.0 beta is available to developers).

We all thought that Sony would reserve the pleasure of uploading the 6.0 firmware PSP official line on the day of its release. Apparently not because of a small grain of sand is a fun, worry that we'll explain.

The latest official firmware dated to be downloaded is 5.51. This firmware is the result of an audit by Sony and all known vulnerabilities and even those who were jealously guarded secret have been corrected. For once, we must recognize that Sony has done a good job. There are probably still gaps but the question is "where" and "does someone want?"

Since Sony released firmware 5.55 but its dissemination via the Internet has never been proposed. When a game requires the software system it is delivered directly to disk. So, we can not put it for download because the extraction from the UMD and the online is not legally possible. Why Sony decided not to put online is still a mystery to us. Note that the release of Custom Firmware 5.55 is also impossible in the state except by asking users to fend for themselves to get the official firmware 5.55 on a UMD.

During our test of the PSP Go to Cologne to Gamescom 09, we saw that the firmware of the latter was 5.70 (see EXCLUDED - Which Firmware for the PSP go? Some info live from the Gamescom 09). The firmware 5.70 is now the team that the PSP and Go will be available in the console to the sale on 1 October 2009. As we say in our news about it, this coming after the firmware 5.51 and 5.55, it should likewise have all known kernel flaws corrected.

Why earlier?

The output of the demo Holy Invasion Of Privacy Badman on PSN has been a definite problem because it required at least firmware 5.55 to bring closure. Users who have not bought games recently have found thus unable to start the demo because it is impossible to download the firmware from Sony's servers. Strangely, our manufacturer Nippon removed the demo from PlayStation Store, rather than deciding to upload the firmware 5.55. Here again, the "why?" is required, right?
