The psychiatrist Rika Kayama Japanese have found a relationship between the sense of isolation (loneliness) of some of his patients and use of portable consoles like the PSP or DS.

A link between loneliness and consoles?
Here are some translated passages from his essay published in the newspaper Mainichi Shinbun:
Young people today are immersed in the world to them where they can feel isolated from other people. The main occupations of these young people are mobile phones and portable consoles such as PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS.
The idea of "make your own world everywhere" (create your own world anywhere) went so far that sometimes the train can see people on lipstick or eating noodles without shame, as if they were at them.

Rika Kayama
I see that more and more people come into my office to tell me that when they are anywhere, they feel alone. Even when they go to a concert by a famous singer or when reading a best-seller, they have no solidarity with the people making these same occupations.
And you, what do you think? Is there a link between loneliness and consoles?
